~ About our shop ~

The name Unusual Expressions was started in 2000. The shop was opened in June of 2002 by Steve Kish in Chester, Iowa. Although we have moved several times we have continued to grow in size and customer base.

Our 1st. shop under this name was licensed and certified in Iowa by the Iowa Dept. of Public Health , We moved 1 year later to LeRoy, Mn. increasing the size of the shop and then again to Austin, Mn. where we went through just about everything the business can throw at you for the last three and a half years. We Moved to Minneapolis, Mn. Sep. of 2006 where we intend to stay permanently. Our customer base consist of people from all over the country and the world. We have a very loyal customer base with over 10,000 returning customers to date most who are driving in excess of 100 miles to have work done.

We maintain certified autoclave sterilization and professional quality equipment is used ,our shop is licensed, inspected by the State and City of Minneapolis as are our artist. We hand make all our tattoo needles and they are used only once. Piercing needles are used once , if we do two piercings on a person we use a second needle , not only is this easier on the customer but safer and less painless .

We have focused our efforts on improving the business and the reputation of the tattoo and piercing business . Our location choices have been to open in a area where we would not step on anyone's toes in the business.

Our business allows access to aid and professional advice in the care of tattoos and piercings, along with quality jewelry.

We take a great deal of pride in our work , customer service is #1 with us . We have a laid back relaxed atmosphere  that most people find very comforting.
Offering over 8000 sheets of flash as well as custom drawn art work all computerized and sorted , if you want to look at animals that is all you are going to look at. Steve personally spent over 300 hours designing and developing a software program , scanning flash and organizing it for the convienence of our customers. We can put together an entire back piece, re-size it and have it ready to go in an hour or two with the customer standing there overseeing the process ( which ensures that you get exactly what you came to us for) We understand what it is like to be pushed into making a decision on your body art and feeling like your just another piece of meat . We would rather take our time , sit down and work with you to ensure that when you leave you are happy and will continue to come back .  Our pricing is extremely affordable , we are not in the business to get rich , but to provide quality artwork and piercing service to our customers.

A final note from the Owners:

Steve & Lori

"Our main philosophy in the business is educating people about infections, Proper Aftercare, what to look for in a studio before you have work done, what proper sterilization is and what true quality work is. We feel that this business will only become what we as artist and studio owners present it as to the ever growing customer base."
